Whitewater Rafting in CDO
I have three places in the Philippines that I consider home. Una na siyempre ang aking hometown of Davao City, the home of the Philippine eagle. Second, ang Bukidnon, the land of Zubiris, and third is Cagayan de Oro City, the city of golden friendship.
Kapag weekends at walang work at raket dito sa bukid ay umuuwi ako sa balay sa Davao o ‘di kaya ay pumupunta ako ng CDO para magliwaliw at magpahinga na rin from a very stressful week. My super duper friend Edz is working there now so ang kubo niya ang sinasalakay ko during my stay there.
Last weekend we explored one of Cagayan de Oro’s tourist attraction. Ang white water rafting. Actually hindi naman white ang tubig sa ilog noh. It’s greenish brown. Colorblind yata ang unang gumamit ng term na white water ek-ek. Hahaha!
Sa totoo lang, I was hesitant to join them kasi nga hindi ako marunong lumangoy but after the briefing n gaming guide ay na-convince naman ako na safe. Kumpleto ang gear, helmet, life vest (mandatory) and knee/elbow guards (optional). And the best part is, walang recorded injury or casualty. Hahaha! Music to my ears.
Anyway highway, Edz and I, together with three friends experienced the extreme adventure. Here are some of our photos.

Mel is is the ‘gurl’ behind “The Misadventures of Mel Beckham”. ‘She’ graduated with a double major in Management and Entrepreneurship. ‘She’ grew up in the city but now lives in the bukid near barrio siete juggling work as a farm manager, office secretary, messenger, construction worker, housemaid, make-up artist and babysitter. Despite ‘her’ busy schedule, ‘she’ finds the time to blog in between work, and errands using ‘her’ primitive mobile phone. ‘She’ plans to take ‘her’ MBA soon but ‘her’ multiple jobs prevent ‘her’ from doing so unless going to school will get ‘her’ paid to pay for ‘her’ utangs.
Before ‘she’ dies, ‘she’ hopes of owning a pair of Louboutins, and landing on the cover of Vogue, kahit sa Vogue India lang. Whichever comes first.

Monique, yup meron din sa Digos but this one in CDO is much better daw and longer. Mas exciting according to friends who’ve experienced both location.

how many kilometers run ba dyan? nainggit ako bigla! na-alala ko yong Davao trip namen na muntik na akong malunod hahaha!
Ate Reynz, the Extreme Adventure is an 18.6km course with 24 exciting rapids. A total of 5 hours of actual river run including side trips. Yun ang sabi ng brochure. Pero kami, 23 rapids lang but it took us only 4 hours para marating ang end point. In fairness hindi ako nalunod kahit natabunan ako ng raft. Hahaha!
18.6?! anak nang leche! mas mahaba yan dun sa Davao River. 13km lang yon and we did spent over 4 hours also. Malumanay lang ang rapids nun but it was good dahil nga natapon ako hahaha!
lumabas ba ang palikpik mo nun? kasi ako ayaw lumabas eh hahaha nagtitili na akong dyesebel indi umubra!
Hindi palikpik ang lumabas Ate Reynz kundi pakpak. Wrong accessory ang nadala ko. Hahaha!
Nag-panic ako dahil hindi ako makalabas sa ilalim ng raft, buti na lang at nahila ako ng isang kasama ko.

Rafting is for everyone, as long as you have a well trained river guide and all necessary safety equipment. Truly one of the best adventure sports in the Philippines.
