i think ang naging problema noon was, sa mga survey nila most pinoys were at that stage nga na feeling half-this half-that, mental colony, ehek, colonial mentality pa rin… pero pero pero iba na ngayon, i would like to think a lot of that has changed, or is changing, slowly but surely. sinimulan ni ate guy, naging superstar kahit kulay indio, kulay pinoy, you don’t have to be maputi to be gifted and to become sikat…

and lately of course is the ofw influence, all the travelling and living in different cultures and climes i think has awakened in ofw’s a real sense, even if largely unarticulated, of the pinoy essence. what makes us different, how are we different from americans, saudi arabians, europeans, japanese, chinese… we have a new appreciation of pinoy strengths, and weaknesses, temperament, how our minds work, how maabilidad we can get, how sipag we can be and how tamad, how faithful and unfaithful…

but besides that of course we also have to know our history in some depth so we can understand our politics and why we have ended up a poor nation, deeply indebted to foreign powers, and why our doctors and nurses leave us, but the lawyers stay…

as far as mass media pesoses lang naman ang mga habol nang mga yan so they’re more interested sa kaban nila instead of educating the masses – and we always see them rally FOR the people pagdating nang election just like the recent headline nang mga CEOs and bigwigs of Manila companies para daw echebureche blah blah blah and i bet you, wala rin to.

educating the masses on election does not start during the election. it’s a process. and it certainly won’t work trhu broadcasting sa mismong araw nang pagboto.
